J-Track, LLC was formed by three individuals with over 70 years of combined experience in transit and track construction work. The Estimator is responsible for working both independently and collaboratively (with executive management and project teams) to estimate project costs for firm fixed-price bids, proposals and change orders. The Estimator's job is to leverage field experience, industry knowledge and solid analytical skills to prepare accurate quantity take-offs. Fundamental to this role is the ability to make sound assumptions and identify gaps in construction documents.


  • Review, interpret, and accurately estimate scopes of work as describe in the project documents

  • Prepare take-off and pricing for civil disciplines

  • Participate in putting final bid together on bid day, attend pre-bid conferences as requested

  • Responsible for all aspects of estimating including pre-construction, hard bids, negotiated bids, budgets, general conditions, value engineering, and subcontractor bidding.

  • Conduct thorough analysis of drawings and specifications, ensuring required information is provided. 

  • Perform detailed project cost estimate using estimating software such as HCSS. 

  • Research selected products from a cost and constructability perspective. 

  • Solicit sub-contractor pricing and bids for different trades in preparation of cost estimate. 

  • Review progress and construction documents for constructability. Lead and participate in discussion regarding alternate detail and materials for specific areas or trades. 

  • Provide and present value engineering options and costs.

  • Provide and present estimating productions and scheduling.

  • Coordinate administrative staff in sending documents to vendors.

Perform any other duties assigned


  • 5-10 years' experience estimating within heavy civil construction industry preferred.

  • Previous experience with MTA agencies (NYCTA/LIRR/MNRR/etc.), NYCDDC, and/or local utilities (Con Edison, DEP, etc.) a plus.

  • Local knowledge of the industry. 

  • Must have exceptional written and oral communication skills

  • Highly proficient in selected software (Excel, Word, Outlook), HCSS Heavy Bid estimating software and P6, and AutoCAD a plus.

  • Ability to make decisions, work independently and coordinate estimating colleagues. 

  • Ability to meet critical project deadline, willingness to coordinate and work as a Team Member.

  • Must be able to handle multiple projects at one time.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
